Hey Matt,

As far as that cap is concerned, I used a metal film and it sounds real nice.
Your post is a few months old so I'm sure you figured it out.

This is a nice build. Thanks gaussmarkov for this very entertaining web site!

Hi! I was wondering about the 560pf "chicklet" style cap; I assume these are the green ones that look like...well, a chicklet? Going to Pedal Parts Plus as well as Small Bear yielded not much since Small Bear doesn't provide many pictures, and certainly doesn't use the "chicklet" description, and PPP doesn't have these in the pf range. I have a ceramic version. I know caps are to a large extent interchangeable, but would I suffer any ill results using the ceramic? I've heard people say the ceramics are harsh. Thanks, Matt

In response to metalero...

This is an overdrive pedal, but the gain in the 4049 has been tamed down quite a bit, compared to the Anderton TSF. Having built a bunch of 4049-based pedals, I have to say that I prefer the sound of a 4049 that is being hit with a hot signal, but uses low-ish gain itself, rather than producing the gain in the 4049.

The little op-amp section with the 3-position toggle is simply the Anderton Frequency Booster circuit that allows you to insert some pre-emphasis before the clipping to achieve different kinds of resonances. It is not critical to include.

I can't begin to count the number of overdrive pedals I've made and customized, and I often come back to this little design, simply because it sounds great with my rig and playng style. If you like the tone of players like Mike Campbell (Tom Petty), this is capable of achieving it.

Hi gaussmarkov
could you put a little description of each proyect???

coz i dont know what is a 49er. its a delay, a fuzz, a chorus???

what is a Gristleizer?

maybe talk about the aplications. if the pedal is great to play metal, rock or blues.

coz a tubescreamer is great for blues, but combined with the distorted channel of an amp, could help to compress a little bit and control the tone and result a better distortion.

thanks

It looks like the 4049 IC has gained new life beyond Craig Anderton's original Tube Sounding Fuzz.

The Boscorelli Stompbox Cookbook uses one in his Distort-O-Matic I.

as i recall, mark and brett actually discussed this in a thread on diystompboxes.com. it's been a while since i read it, but i think mark hammer used the name first and brett was going to change the name of his circuit. probably, the smooth-o-matic is the new name that brett chose.

hi

i´ve found another forty niner on the web by Brett Robinson, almost equal to his Smooth-o-matic ( the only difference being a capacitor the first at input)
i wonder wich one is the good one, i mean the original!!!
thanks a lot
