Fuzzy Logic Layoiut

Following the leads of many others, here is a schematic and layout designed for fuzz face experiments using sockets for changing components.

Some of the fuzzes you can make after building this layout are the Basic Fuzz Face (with R.G. Keen Mods, Roger Mayer Mods, Fuller Mods), the Vox Tone Bender 5/67, runoffgroove.com‘s Sili-Faces, fuzzcentral.com‘s Axis Face Germanium and Silicon, Joe Gagan’s Easy Face, Aron Nelson’s Hornet, the Gus Fuzz Face, Tim Escobedo’s Many Faces, the Boutique Fuzz, and the Miss Piggy. All of the schematic sources, and contrasts between fuzzes, are in this ms excel spreadsheet.

    You’re site is nothing short of AMAZING and ANY DIYer MUST consider your site a 1st stop in research. Thank you!

    I have been building pedlas and even amplifiers for the last year or so and am having stellar success and in understanding what is going on.

    However, I am having nothing but issues with “Fuzz” pedals! I’ve gotten my hands on Germanium transistors from NTE and the like, but the pedals even if they have some tone, have almost no gain at full volume.

    I’ll continue to mess around with them now that I have more time and the next one I will be building it this wonderful “Fuzzy Logic” that you created and MANY different designs can be incorporated on one board!

    I wonder if there is anything additional or site you can recommend for research and troubleshooting or recommendations or components. I know this one also has a BOM list, so I’ll procure a few different parts and see what happens. I know many sites have “matching” resistors and transistors. Is this/are these for biasing?

    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again and I hope to have a killer Fuzz in the near future…right now I have nothing! :(

I think I figured out how to test the germaniums for gain and leakage, so I have some and values. I’m shelving them for now and getting ready to put together this Fuzzy Logic and will put int he sockets so I can swap out parts…BUT which to build firs and has the best “fuzz”???
