Voodoo Lab Overdrive

Voodoo Lab Overdrive layout

I have various reasons for putting this one together. My interest was peaked when the Voodoo Lab Overdrive was associated recently with the Fulltone OCD. I was also looking for a relatively simple circuit with op-amps that I could use for an Eagle layout tutorial that I plan to write. In addition, I have been working up my understanding of op-amps through writing a series of tutorials and the divided negative feedback tools are really useful with this circuit.

There are a bunch of mods to consider with this circuit, all of which have been applied to other stompbox circuits over the years. And if the reports are accurate, similar mods appear in the OCD as well. If you want to try mods on a breadboard, I have prepared a basic breadboard layout and posted it in the IC-Based Overdrive project on Aron’s forum as Voodoo Lab Overdrive. The mods are listed on my version of the schematic.

You sould probably use a Millenium Bypass scheme if you want to use DPDT switches and Led´s. Google it and you´ll find lots of stuff about it. PS: I´m also brazilian =)

I had a great time making this baby! One of my first “working” builds. A very neat circuit that can be used as a clean booster if needed. Then turn the gain up and hear it slowly creep in and grunge it up a little. Really enjoy the possibilities of sounds this simple two knob pedal can put out. Once again great work Gauss!

    Hi There, Nice work here…

    I’m building a VLO and I’m just wondering: Is R1 (2.2M) a ‘pulldown resistor’? Just curious… thanks.

[…] pointed out, the OCD is almost certainly a tweaked version of an earlier (90s?) pedal – the Voodoo Labs Overdrive pedal.  To my eyes, the starting point for the VL Overdrive would have been the old MXR Distortion […]
